I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great salary, ok benefits package. very diverse environment

Cons

Non union employees have to pay too much for benefits and union employee pay nearly nothing. company needs to provide consistency across the board. Job environment is very unstable as well. They have laid off employees at least twice a year for the last 5 years.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most co-workers are great. We all go through the same internal experiences daily.

    Cons

Micromanagent to the Nth degree. Expected to work 24/7, nights, holidays, weekends. What have you done for me lately attitude by upper management.
    Morale continues to get worse.
I've heard from existing employees that it continues to get worse.

    Advice to Management

Leave people alone to do their jobs. People have no quality of life because Verizon sucks the life right out of them!
Pay people what they're worth. Get rid of the slackers, there are many. Get rid of the union!
Hire from within. There are some good people, so why do so many upper management prefer to hire off the street?
I was laid off last year and couldn't find another job internally. RIF'd employees should be given first priority at securing a job vs someone who is not being laid off.

I worked at Verizon as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay was fantastic, I loved working with my team, the deadlines were reasonable, I was never over worked. There was plenty of time to get the work done and have some fun.

    Cons

Lots of people involved in projects, some red tape to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Let the creative/technical departments do their jobs, trust them to finish the task without too much oversight and they will continue to thrive.
