I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, great coworkers, working on fun content. I've spent most of my time at MTVN at smaller networks owned by Viacom and the pros of working here specifically are that you get the best of both worlds: resources of a large media company, but the experiences and opportunities of a small company.

Cons

Often times, unqualified people get promoted. And once people get to executive level, they never leave. People who should be getting rewarded for their hard work often spend years doing the work of positions above them before being compensated for it. It just always seemed like there was a small group of people who would get promoted every year and everyone else just hung around.

Advice to Management

Figure out your employees' strengths and weaknesses and empower them to contribute in a meaningful way. Reward hard work and creative abilities.

I worked at Viacom Media Networks as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Super nice people. Everyone is very friendly, and wants you to learn about the industry.

    Cons

Have to ask for work a lot.
    Work isn't always important.

    Advice to Management

Create a plan or schedule for the interns instead of relying on employees to throw work on the interns

I worked at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A strong name that carried those looking to make moves in the industry to higher pay and titles elsewhere. The laid-back culture on the business side of the company (vs creative) has turned more corporate in recent years, but it's still a young, smart and creative workplace.

    Cons

Politics were rampant, work-life balance suffered from time to time and pay left much to be desired even after a few years actively contributing to the firm.

    Advice to Management

More merit based promotion and L&D would help
