Great mission and people, but unorganized and partisan - Executive Assistant Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation Employee Review
- 2.0Jun 8, 2020Executive AssistantFormer Employee, more than 1 yearWashington, DC
Pros
The organization has an amazing mission. You get to meet and work with decision makers in DC, and affect change in a positive way. The support staff are kind and team oriented. People actually care about their co-workers.
Cons
If you are not a staunch conservative, you will be extremely uncomfortable working here. It is surprising how organized the VOC appears; most communication and decision making happens at the last minute, and there is rarely any justification for actions taken. Also, hot topics (abortion, religion, race, etc) are discussed freely and openly in the office.

Pros
-work schedule was flexible within reason -work was relatively meaningful -pay was good -people were ethical and operations were transparent -people put a lot of soul into the work
Cons
-no mobility -despite being meaningful, the work wasn't impactful -at that time, something internal at the top levels was happening and there was no transparency about what that was (despite it affecting the rest of us) -top management didn't seem responsible
