I worked at Vistaprint full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Decent technology and winning teams in most every area of the company. Great business model. Disciplined execution that operates pretty smoothly from top to bottom.

Cons

Could be more employee-centric as the focus is very much on making money. Not a socially aware company. Some of the technology is outdated.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Vistaprint full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Generally interesting technical problems and challenges
    - Smart and friendly colleagues.
    - Collaborative atmosphere
    - Opportunities to advance and/or move laterally within the company

    Cons

    - Growing culture clash as the company grows and more 'middle managers' are created.
    - Expect off-hours work if you break the website (or someone else breaks the website in an area you are the SME)

    Advice to Management

    - Keep up the work of overhauling both the technology and the culture. Things weren't great for a while, but they are on-track to improve.

"fast paced, intelectually challenging in a good way, and very political"

    I worked at Vistaprint full-time

    Pros

intelectually stimulating environment--some really interesting people to work with and fast paced innovative projects to work on. Great benefits. Opportunity to work in a globally mixed environment.

    Cons

very political management structure--there isn't a clear career path or clearly identified qualifications for advancement.
Biased performance review process that focuses on identifying and rewarding "high pos" or high potential candidates. But the qualifications and characteristics of "high pos" are not clearly communicated.
Employee pool rated on a bell curve--not necessarily individual performance.
Focused on maintaining an "employment brand" that hires from the ivy league or similar level colleges and universities

    Advice to Management

Almost everyone has potential given the right opportunity, the right situation and the right manager. Think more about individual relationships between managers and direct reports, and support those direct reports as much as you support the managers. Recognize that highly talented employees don't only come from an ivy league background.
