I worked at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Extensive training, building relationships with customers.

Cons

Never enough payroll. Customers become quite unhappy when they can't get assistance because the one employee is stuck at the register.

Advice to Management

Pay the associates more, and splurge a little when handing out hours.

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Working with terrific customers

Good people in the organization on most levels

    Very good education program

Personal satisfaction knowing you assist people in reaching their goals

Everyone shares the common goal of helping people

    Cons

Low pay for health enthusiasts combined with insulting pay increases lead to high turnover

Most people above DM level have never actually run a Vitamin Shoppe location, however, they "feel your pain"

So many tasks along with deep customer interaction and high traffic - payroll hours = frustrated team

Never interacted with anyone at the corporate level that didn't act like my phone call/email just interrupted the greatest moment of their lives

No recognition for personal or team performance. In fact, hiring process weeds out people who like to be recognized for achievements

Choose between working off the clock or shorting your staff (thereby affecting sales and possibly impacting your bonus) so that you can complete the required market activation and attend outside health fairs

    Advice to Management

Give your managers the tools to succeed such as paying the staff a liveable wage and a few additional payroll hours to accomplish the myriad of tasks and sales that are due everyday. Save the EPPIC moments, Flex time and other corporate feel good propaganda and show us the culture of "caring" applies to the teams as well, not just to the customers and investors.

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is a rewarding job and is completely easy. The work you do is really appreciated. Opportunities for advancement, and you have great, loyal customers.

    Cons

The worst thing you'll have to do is mop a floor. Hours are scarce and sporadic so you have to wonder if it's worth it to you sometimes.. They do not like set schedules so you can't work a second job easily.

    Advice to Management

Allow set scheduling. Especially if it works for the employees.
