I worked at Volt Information Sciences full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great training that allows someone with little to no experience ramp up quickly

Cons

Internal relationships are focused too much on seniority and not enough on partnership

"Working for Volt showed me how big companies will hire "permatemps" to avoid offering benefits."

I worked at Volt Information Sciences as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They hire people I get along with.

    Cons

If you're hired as a temp, prepare to be a "permatemp"; that is a permanent temporary employee. I worked for 4 years through Volt - 2 years each for 2 companies - and NEVER seen anyone hired by Volt or the company hiring temps to a full time permanent position. Both companies I worked for are household names but are too cheap to hire their own permanent employees; probably because they don't want to offer benefits.

    Advice to Management

Keep track of paperwork, eg. w2s. My tax return paperwork was lost by Volt management and so I had to jump through several hoops: mailing, faxing, emailing different paperwork just so I could wait a weeks to receive my w2 in the mail when it should have shown up last month. Still waiting.
