I worked at Von Maur part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-coworkers -holidays off -gratis( certain departments) -Sunday’s time and a half pay -pay was decently okay -nice incentives sometimes we could win fragrance testers, or cash, or past gifts -creativity -management was always kind to me -sense of teamwork and a coworker always having your back in a situation -taught me about professionalism in the work place -punctuality matters(I like that) -during store... events, ideas were always welcomed -well trained in product knowledge and on a cash register -ability to price match -20% off discount (becomes really nice when there is a Nike sale for 25% off and you can use your 20% as well) -promotions happen frequently -when busy, shifts pass quickly

    Cons

-management does let a lot of things fall behind, when they shouldn’t -not equal work, ever -strict dress code - a lot of stress during holiday time for little reward -constant standing -short staffed frequently -get ready to work every weekend, except one(that you most likely did not get to choose, either) -for awhile I did the job of a manager but did not get any of the benefits a manager would, and was never... recognized for the work I accomplished -never guaranteed a 15 minute paid break -department manager never made others do as much work as others -this will happen at any company, but seniority is huge here especially when it comes to time off of the weekend rotation, full time counter managers/or regular DM’s get 2 weeks off and get to chose 2, before you get to chose your one... every time. -very true to policy(keep your handbook handy) -get ready to cover a lot of departments -inventory sucks( I assume anywhere it does) but 5:45 am till 10 am and then work a split shift and come back at 4pm-9pm, no thanks. This doesn’t happen for everyone, but it happened to me the 4 times I did inventory. -a lot of down time

    Advice to Management

Do a better job recognizing your good loyal employees and reward them, it will mean a lot. Even if it’s a “keep up the good work!”. And please, figure out a new system for weekends off, it’s not fair. You don’t like it, we don’t like it. Fix it. Also, please never take away creativity from employees, it means a lot when you hear our ideas and validate them. Also, never lose your personal Von Maur touch, it’s special.... I like how employees feel like family.

I have been working at Von Maur full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I've been with Von Maur at the Hoover, Al location for 8 months and it's been one of the best and most rewarding time in my career, I love the dress code, for the most part, Co-workers and friendly and ALWAYS willing and ready to help. the discount is great and meeting different people from all walks of life who comes in to shop and talk has been rewarding. I've always said, if work is your second home, it needs to... be a place you enjoy working and find fulfilling.
