    Pros

It is said the true measures of job satisfaction are degree of autonomy and the extent to which your input is valued. At W. W. Norton, both of these are in abundant supply. The sales force is encouraged to think creatively about the best way to talk about our books and media as well as to focus on client-centered service. It is a collaborative atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to contribute their skills and expertise to a common goal - perpetuating "Books That Live."

    Cons

    W. W. Norton is an efficient organization where everyone takes ownership of tasks that need to be completed. However, that can result in individuals assuming more responsibilities than can be reasonably handled. The company has come a long way to address this but there is still work to do.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to the talented people you have in the field. You hired them for their skills. Have faith in your decision. The college market is rapidly changing and the collective micro views of the sales force points to the direction we must take.

    Pros

Small, and provide good products and services. Upper management is efficient and friendly.

    Cons

The company has been around for awhile, and is employee owned so many people have been here a long time. Change is slightly painful because of this, and slow to move.

    Advice to Management

Managers could pay special attention to managing people as individuals. Not one person is alike and motivated the same things.
