Pros

The game itself is terrific, and there are some really awesome people working here.

Cons

Crunch time all the time, 60+ hour weeks are the norm. Mandatory 8-6 office hours, WFH discouraged. Atmosphere of fear and intimidation, everyone is afraid of the cofounders. Major micromanagement, everyone must send out EOD emails detailing their work for the day. Benefits are not competitive, PTO and holidays are almost non-existent. Preferential treatment for fraternity buddies of the cofounders doesn't exactly feel fair. Some people are allowed to go to the gym for hours each day and keep giant piles of dirty laundry in the office, but those who work throughout the day still can't take off before 6 or come in after 8. Did I mention the mandatory 8-6 office hours enough? Where else in the area are engineers expected to be at their desks by 8am sharp?

Pros

WRKSHP is a company with an amazing vision. And there is amazing talent and willpower in the company to achieve that vision. Hours and PTO are flexible and up to the individual responsibility. Office has a beautiful view of the bay bridge.

Cons

WRKSHP is constantly breaking new grounds and creating innovative unique entertainment products. The nature of these projects demands an a unique amount of talent, self leadership, and grit. Constant failures, trail and error, and long hours are some of the things required to create breakthroughs in projects. It isn't for everyone.

Pros

Choosing to work here has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I used to work in a corporate job where I actually found the work interesting and could see myself continuing down that career path. So when I first started talking to PennyPop, I was a bit skeptical at first. As I continued talking to the team here including the two co-founders, however, I became convinced that this was where I needed to be. The team here is unafraid to tackle any challenge or industry. The company has a solid vision and are focused on building durable, consumer businesses that can withstand downturns. Unlike many startups whose sole goal is to take the company public and make a profit, people here genuinely believe in making the world a little better than it was before by providing consumer experiences that make people happy. Creativity is highly valued at the company, and it’s a great feeling to be in such a fostering environment where I find myself creatively challenged. Everyone here is highly motivated and supportive of each other, and managers care about your career growth.

Cons

I think the con with working in such an environment is that it could feel a bit fast-paced. I personally don’t experience this much as I find the work really fulfilling. When people do feel this though, I think they’re generally able to talk to their managers to work things out.
