I worked at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good cafeteria. Some really nice people. Many good thinkers and research.

    Cons

Decisions that effect faculty and staff are made by upper management without input from faculty and staff. Many managers are not qualified for their positions. Most managers do not know how to manage like those who have studied management styles and roles do. Good 'ole boy network exists. ***Sexual harassment is not handled properly. Two victims that I know of: the persons doing the harassment were not demoted/fired/otherwise punished in any way. In fact, one victim was "set up" to look bad so that the person harassing her (her boss) could fire her, thus eliminating the victim. One of the guilty ones was actually given a promotion. Clearly, victims are not believed or have their complaints taken seriously. ****

    Advice to Management

Don't stay in the ivory tower. Get input from many levels and genuinely consider their advice and opinions before making lasting management changes. Often, decisions have been made and the faculty/staff have been asked their opinion(s) when the decisions have already been made at the top level. It's to make it look like they had some say. Don't cut benefits that were offered when we were recruited. Give management lessons in management styles and methods. Don't waste so much money on unnecessary technology, like new computers every year.

The value of the institution goes well beyond the clinical value of the hospital
