Pros

The pros are that you have the chance gain the knowledge to information needed to be successful in management. With the right upper manager as a guide there are chances to progress if you have a love for retail and love the business aspect of.

Cons

Working in holidays, transfers without your input, the company has become more sales driven. The company seems to put a lot of pressure on its employees to meet several goals that sometime are not realistic and can be very annoying and irritating to the customers.

Advice to Management

Is to learn your employees habits, good and bad. Discipline accordingly. Bring the company back to the family -oriented company that it use to be and not so sales driven and impersonal.

I worked at Walgreens part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

All technicians have to be certified so you are not working with people who don't know there jobs. Workflow keeps everyone in place allowing the shift to run smoothly.Great benefits, can buy shares in the co, in-store discounts and online. Great pharmacists.

    Cons

Shifts are constantly cut. Managers don't stay long because of the workload placed on them. Customers are horrid to the staff, and then are given gifts cards for their hissy fits. Need to higher more technicians for the number of prescriptions. Pharmacy constantly swamped. Be ready to deal with rude doctors and outsourced insurance agents who don't have a clue.

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting shifts and add more technicians so the ones you have are not pulling their hair out. Without the extra help lots of mistakes are made making the company look incompetent.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Walgreen's has a good health benefits plan. It includes medical, dental, and vision. For the most part, the operating system in the pharmacy (IntercomPlus) is a good computer system. The work environment can vary greatly from store to store. I have worked in many different stores and finally found a store with a very fair manager and great co-workers, which seems to be a rare combination.

    Cons

Like most companies these days, Walgreen's is pushing the envelope to see how far they can scale down the staff before the walls begin to crumble. I you want to work in the pharmacy, be prepared to juggle the responsibilities of three people. If you can't multitask or get easily flustered in chaotic situations, I don't recommend a career in retail pharmacy. It is lightening-fast pace. Since corporate controls the hourly budget, you have no say in how many tech/pharmacist hours can be scheduled for your pharmacy. Often times, there is only one pharmacist and one technician on duty when in all reality there should be at least 2 pharmacists, and 2 to 3 techs to adequately handle the heavy work loads.
Furthermore, if you work in a 24-hour pharmacy, you are required to work all holidays--no exceptions.

    Advice to Management

More money should go towards payroll to adequately staff the pharmacies.
