    I worked at Walmart

    Pros

Excellent pay. I made $8.50 when I started in 2007, and when I transferred to another store two years later I was making $10.70. The other store was in a higher income neighborhood, and when I transferred there I was paid $11.80 an hour. When I finally left Walmart upon graduating college that summer, I was making $12.30 an hour. I was "only" a cashier the entire time I was with Walmart. Excellent job for a... college student like myself. If I ever needed more or less hours, certain days off or a schedule change, management was always very supportive of me and worked with me. Great advancement opportunity and benefits. My mom started out as a cashier there five years ago and is now an assistant manager of an entire Walmart store. She is doing very well and has received thorought training every step of the way. The benefits she received through Walmart were AWESOME and provided full coverage for our family as well as a 401K. Her insurance has covered everything for all of us and completely provided for braces for all of the kids.

    Cons

It is not the most prestigious job when you are starting out with the company, usually, unless you are hired into management. As you are working in retail, sometimes customers are not very nice.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote from within, so that all of the management will have worked their way through the company from the ground up.
