Treat associates with respect and explain why you want your associates to do desired tasks instead of using the "because I said so" mentality.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Endless opportunity for advancement and movement within the company. Pay is better than anyone else in the industry (at a comparable level, such as Kmart, Target, etc). Benefits are comparable to other retailers at salaried level. Hours are not great but again, comparable to other retailers.

    Cons

Personal satisfaction is lacking. There is a large gap in education and understanding and the human element (soft people skills) is greatly misunderstood and not implemented properly. Training is lacking and there is not much room for argument, despite quotes peppered throughout literature about culture speaking about how individual creativity is vital to the success of the company.

    Advice to Management

Be up front with how difficult and stressful the position is. It comes with great responsibility and while not physically or conceptually difficult, the stress and decision-making is understated when presented to outsiders.
