I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

You get to meet the public everyday

Cons

Low wages/have to work weekends/only 5 paid holidays/most management treat you like dirt/most managers do NOT have management skills!

Advice to Management

Try putting yourself in the workers shoes once in awhile!

I worked at Walmart (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the assistant managers had a good balance between knowing when to joke around with you, and when to be on you about getting the work done.
Overnight differentical was 1.50. (So starting rate is at the minimum 9.60 an hour)
Never boring, something or someone will always keep you both busy and entertained.

    Cons

Understaffed a lot of the time.
A lot of times, management would leave the overnight cashiers, as well as the closing cashiers alone at the register without walkies or a csm or anybody with override keys, while they were in the 10pm meeting.

    Advice to Management

To corporate: listen to what your store/co/assistant managers have to say about being understaffed before you cut people after the holidays or put a hiring freeze into effect.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Associate 10% discount card, paid vacation, pleasant co-workers, job security (so long as you are responsible)

    Cons

poor management team (there is no communication among management in emergency situations until the very last minute), scheduling of cashiers, pay, cleanliness is the worst.

    Advice to Management

communicate more with each other about what needs to be done.

non-management are people too and should be treated with more respect.

become more helpful to situations like when the store is busy, schedule more cashiers or
help check out customers on the registers.
