I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Learn Walmart Way
Ability to learn from suppliers and co-workers
Work with high caliber people

Cons

Political environment
very MBA focused on education - not ability or expertise or experience
Diversity can be a plus or a negative

Advice to Management

Look at the achievements of the people - not always the GPA or school - (not to say its not important) don't know very many Harvard grads that grew up shopping at Walmart, or shop at Walmart even after they came to work at Walmart Corporate. Need to relate to the Customer.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Undoubtedly, the people/associates who work in the stores are truly the heart of this company. Having worked in nearly a dozen different stores, it was always the associates that kept me going back to work each day.

    Cons

Lack of commitment of upper echelon management to the associates. Though salary is a major concern for most in today's economy, most would also take less if they received more fair and consistent treatment from management.

    Advice to Management

Get off your high horse...if you came up through the ranks, remember where you came from and who really got you there....stop believing in your own ego, and remember that the people who got you where you are today, are not any less by virtue of your position...

I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great people to work with

    Cons

Understaffed, frenetic pace and overload of available staff is unbelievable. And WalMart likes it this way. All that "listen to your employees" stuff and "one team one family" propaganda they hand you is nothing but a load of manure.

    Advice to Management

Store management not to blame for the policies of the business school bean counter types that head the corporation, they're just doing what they're told.
