I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

I started as a cashier and was asked to move to receiving.I got a fair raise at all my evals.Health coverage was ok,when an associate was in need of help they helped out.

Cons

The problem with Walmart when you are trained to do a job,they change policy and do not not put in writing.I followed policy did not accept anything from vendors,but was terminated for not physically holding a bag of chips as I scanned it in.They would rather rehire people who called out all the time and ones who stole from them.I was eligible for rehire in 3 months,I have still not been rehired,but they have rehired people in less than 3 months,people who were late every day.

Advice to Management

The management should pay more attention to what emplyees as a whole are saying.

    I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    * great management environment
    * lots of professional resources
    * lots of intelligent and talented people

    Cons

    * will spend a half dozen man hours to audit a $200 purchase
    * takes forever to get things budgeted (financial and engineering/technical resources) so projects take 20x as long as they need to
    * company doesn't devote enough time to professional development (sending the minions on company functions, trips, conferences, etc.)
    * seriously, all of the directors and VPs travel a ton to the same functions every year but I can't get a critical flight to see my counterparts in San Bruno approved.

    Advice to Management

    Promote internally, don't be so rigid, maintain talent, take risks

    I have been working at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Wal-Mart in Rock Springs, WY has a great management team.

    Cons

    The attitudes of Zone managers can be challenging at times.

    Advice to Management

    Front-end management can use some newer people such as the ZM. Very grouchy, unfriendly, and lazy. Does not like to help when asked by cashiers always puts the responsibility off on a csm.
