I worked at Washington Metro full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

CHallenging work, public service, making a difference in millions of lives daily. Benefits and pay are superb, opportunity for go-getters to rise is good, self-starters are rewarded.

Cons

Inherent inability to consistently provide a trouble-free commute, internecine political environment, institutional malaise aided by unions in maintenance divisions cripple management's ability to provide a consistent ride for customers.

Advice to Management

Get better at weeding out slackers at all layers. Unions have a vise grip on maintenance and lower level operations folks and there's too much opportunity for theft and negligence.

I have been working at Washington Metro full-time

    Pros

    Stability,not bound to office environment,freedom.

    Cons

No training; as a new tech you just end up working with people who have been working there for many years with little to no formal training , the on job training is a failure because of that, but you will still be expected to fix stuff with no training .

    Advice to Management

Every new tech needs good systems training , stop your politics and do your job .. Don't act after the fact, train people ..the pay is good but with lack of training you are wasting many people with lots of good potential that can really help the company move forward.

I have been working at Washington Metro full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With the rising cost of public transportation the ONE good thing is the free cost of using their transportation system.

    Tuition reimbursement opportunities.

    Cons

No growth in non-union positions. Collusion with top management and certain outside consultants.
