I have been working at Wayfair full-time

    Pros

    - People are fun and very helpful
    - Great location
    - Growing industry

    Cons

Wayfair spends a lot of effort and resources trying to hire the best engineers but they take no interest in the ones who already work at Wayfair. The business teams have way too much say in the reviews (how a person with a communication background can review the performance of an engineer is a mystery to me) and have no understanding of how much effort, time or learning it takes to write a piece of code. After an engineer builds something, chances are they wont ever use it- because they would have changed their "top priority" by then.

The company's vision is very short-term and they rely heavily on patchwork-solutions to push through every quarter. That said, there a teams within Wayfair that have great managers who truly care about the engineers and set long term goals and career paths.

Lastly the ridiculous salaries- the company is located in downtown Boston, which means living costs are high. I'm not sure how the management expects the employees to live on Wayfair-salaries. A lot of the engineers burn out very quickly given the heavy work load, depending on which team you work for.

Wayfair is a great stepping stone where you can have fun and make great friends, but not a great career option.

    Advice to Management

    - Pay your employees like they are real people
    - Have a short term and long term plan. No, saying you want to be the best online company in the world doesn't exactly count.
    - Wayfair has been around for 10+ years, and is NOT a startup anymore. Please start acting like its a real company.
