I worked at Weber Shandwick full-time

Pros

There are a lot of very smart, talented people working at WS. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with folks across teams and offices, and people are always very willing to jump in and lend a hand.

Cons

Because of the size of the organization, you can sometimes get lost in the shuffle. It helps to have a great relationship with your manager and communicate with him/her often. The work/life balance tends to shift to the work side of the scale, so be prepared for long hours.

    Pros

Global network, collaboration among team members, understanding staff, diversity of clients, access to cutting edge communications tools, ability to vacation in cities and still work in local WS offices

    Cons

Lots of bureaucracy, favoritism, too much process that gets in the way of moving up, low pay, potential ability to be segmented into particular role

    Advice to Management

Understand that loyalty starts at the beginning and if that is not cultivated from the get go, you risk losing your greatest talent to rival agencies or in house positions.

  2. "Great place to go straight out of college; can be rewarding, but also grueling"

    Pros

Great benefits (aside from financial compensation.) Lots of opportunities to learn and grow. If you are one of the "favorites" you're ascent will be much quicker.

    Cons

Travel can sometimes be heavy. Long hours are not uncommon. Pace can be hectic and stressful. Ultimately, your experience will be shaped depending on which teams you are on and which manager you happen to fall under. If you're assigned to good people, you're in luck. If not, it will be a difficult experience.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to give your subordinates clear instruction. Don't be afraid to push back on clients, when appropriate. Be sure to give your teams ample time to address tasks.
