    Pros

Cornell is known for academic excellence, and there is great access to scientific facilities, as well as lectures by preeminent scientists and physicians.

    Cons

The compensation for scientific staff is so low (below janitorial pay in many cases) that it is necessary to subsidize my salary with odd jobs. There is no opportunity for work-life balance, and females are actively discouraged from having children. There is no administrative or HR support; in fact, there is more of an antagonistic, and very unprofessional, attitude towards scientific staff.

    Advice to Management

Such low compensation in such a high rent district is going to make it difficult to recruit top scientific staff who can secure funding. Continued building and expansion may be a mistake if it comes to rely on short-term NIH grants from researchers on soft money.
