I have been working at WellCare (More than a year)

Pros

Job security - well, this is still a false notion. Once CMS audits the company or the company loses star scores that means company will lose contracts and that would mean layoffs! everything is hanging by a thread. Since the medicare/medicaid space is monopolized by few firms they will continue to survive.

Cons

* below average market pay
* monthly healthcare premiums rose 40% for 2013. this was difficult to digest considering you are working for a healthcare firm.
* only 2 weeks PTO whereas the industry trend is towards 3 or 4 weeks of PTO.
* No sharing of wealth - Senior management get stock options, bonuses, short term and long term incentives and a separate retirement plan.
* Business process - most of it is broken and its running on patch work.
* Communication - all internal communication from upper management is via emails. so far, I haven't seen any VP and above attend any town halls meeting or take questions!

Advice to Management

* Put Employees first and I repeat, employees first.
* Fix business process
* Improve our star scores( star scores went down across the board and yet senior management gets 300% bonus for 2012 - what is the explanation?) Tie star scores to bonuses!!
* Provide generous PTO and Sick days and re-instate federal holidays like MLK day, Presidents day etc.

    I have been working at WellCare full-time

    Pros

    Tampa is great. The people are nice

    Cons

    I have never been so micro managed in my life! No room for creativity. Stifling work environment. And even after all of the widget counting this may be the only health insurance company to go out of business during reform. There is no planning, foresight or forward thinking. Every thing is a crisis. The combination of micro management and crisis management is a bad mix.

    Advice to Management

    There is none. They wouldn't get it if there was.

    I have been working at WellCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Salary is ok. Lower management tries hard to make it tolerable, at least in the market I work in.

    Cons

    Upper management/director has severely unrealistic expectations....this is true throughout every market in WellCare...and this is exactly what they will tell you if you voice any concern. There is no work/life balance...all work all the time. If you take vacation time your workload just builds ands waits for you. There is no direction...no guidelines...seems like every day policies change...depends on who is giving orders....nothing is ever in writing...constant battles....no teamwork across markets. The job is basically impossible. They expect one person to do the job of at least 3. The systems are painfully slow and very outdated. Customer service is laughable. Bullying actually exists at WellCare too. You can't complain though or you will definitely lose your job. Be prepared to bite your tongue a LOT. Oh, the health benefits started out ok but definitely are now the worst ever.

    Advice to Management

    Set realistic expectations and hire enough employees already. Stop micromanaging people. Manners....learn them....use them. Thank you can and should be said.
