I have been working at WellPoint full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At least in my department, the atmosphere is relaxed. There's no micromanaging and you are trusted to get your work done with little to no management involvement.

Also, some truly great and intelligent people work here. Some really want to see you succeed. Many positions would be open to a work at home arrangement after a year or two and this would be great if you have family.

The employees themselves are this company's greatest asset.

    Cons

The company rewards low performers. Once you're in a professional position, it is nearly impossible to get fired. However, high achievers are not rewarded for their hard work. No matter what your performance, everyone gets the same 2% raise year after year, which doesn't even cover cost of living increases. The compensation, bonuses, and merit increases are WELL below market.

As much as the low management involvement is nice, it also makes it difficult to come to them with questions or if you aren't sure how to approach a problem.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to make employees feel valued for their hard work. They are working late for you, taking away time from their families and children and without the benefit of overtime. They deserve more than a clap on the back or a mass thank you email from one of the many nameless executives.
