I have been working at Wells Fargo full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

An extremely well-run bank focused on servicing customers and being a good corporate citizen but with an eye on growing and expanding in a sound, controlled and disciplined manner.

Cons

Perhaps it may be possible to lose yourself in such a large enterprise.

Advice to Management

Very senior leaders and managers know and buy into the vision of the company. Unfortunately, some lower managers don't always communicate the vision or walk the walk. A greater effort has to be made to make sure the vision of the company and the great people culture is experienced by all employees at all levels in all locations, especially in offices that were acquired in the not too distant past.

I have been working at Wells Fargo full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance is great. I get tons of time off, and have never had an issue leaving early, scheduling vacation or getting in an appointment during work hours. Health benefits are very good (you have to like account based health benefits to see it like I do). 401(k) Match is very good (100% full match on first 6% of your salary) and there has been an annual profit sharing bonus of 2% for all employees each of the past few years. The firm trips over itself in so many ways, but despite this there is still good money to be made. Career opportunities are there if you want to work in the home office or be an FA. This is an EASY place to work.

    Cons

The biggest issue is large pockets of employees are scared to try anything new. Getting a CA registered is like pulling teeth. Upgrade the computer operating systems and you have years of co-workers complaining they don't know how to use their equipment (Really? It's Windows. How hard can it be? It's been around for 20 years). Our software doesn't do everything it should (don't worry, each year I'm told updates that will fix everything are on the way). I don't believe our financial products are the best, and this company is very much focused on selling products and not providing the best for customers. The managed product lineup continues to change every couple years, which is embarrassing to tell a client. There is some cross-over between business units which causes confusion among customers (more than one online brokerage for instance, with different pricing and fees between them - e.g WellsTrade and Access Online). Customer notetaking systems are not always used. This is a big problem among FAs who are no longer hungry (they built their book over 20 years and are just coasting, not looking for growth). Career opportunites are lacking if you work in a local branch.

    Advice to Management

Quit acquiring new businesses thinking it will bring economies of scale. You're already one of the largest firms in almost every area you operate. If you don't have good scale now, what makes you think paying a premium to acquire a rival and going through a multi-year integration will help? Good job picking up Wachovia though (opportunistic, not growing just to get bigger).
