I worked at Western Governors University full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

WGU is a not for profit online accredited university. They treat their employees well. Benefits and vacation time accrue beginning first paycheck. They have a matching 403(b) retirement plan, short and long term disability, 2 floating holidays start on day 1 as well as the traditional holidays. You do work hard to provide the best for the students that you work with but you are treated well for it.

Cons

Pay scale is lower than it should be if compared to a for-profit school. Days are filled with lots of work. since they are an online school, there are processes and policies that get updated and clarified frequently. As new technology gets integrated into the process you will be expected to adapt quickly. Not for the faint of heart.

I worked at Western Governors University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work from home
In control of your work schedule

    Cons

    Work from home
    Misleading place to work
    No opportunity for growth

    Advice to Management

This organization is not what it use to be. When I first started it was really good. However, the culture has changed tremendously. As a student mentor, you will never get the credit that you deserve. They will always find a way to make mentors feel that everything that goes wrong is their fault in some kind of way. They do not offer tuition reimbursement. Senior management only care about numbers. Please don't believe the hype. It will sound wonderful when you start, but after 6 months to a year you will really see who WGU really is.

I worked at Western Governors University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work from home position, and that's about it

    Cons

Many policies only learned about after a mistake was made. In trying to change jobs within I NEVER heard back from HR.

    Advice to Management

Make sure training includes very clear reviews of policies and procedures. Get HR to move a little faster and at least tell employees why they did not qualify for a job.
