I have been working at Western Growers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is OK. Benefits are better than average. 401k match up to 3%. Generous percentage of salary placed in 401k annually for profit sharing. Nice building and working environment aesthetically. Cafeteria onsite. The majority of people of very nice, hard working.

    Cons

Lack of communication between leadership and the rest of the employee population. Company goals are unknown. Departments are siloed and duplication of work occurs. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Leadership is almost exclusively male. Old school mentality. The preceding is an overall view. In my department there is a great chasm between management and the rest of the employees. The EVP does is a poor communicator. Decisions are made that affect everyone, but are not communicated. Open positions are not posted. New employees show up with new job titles. No promotions from within or pathways for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Determine the organizational goals and communicate them to the employee population so that everyone is working toward the same goals. Find a way to open up the silos between departments so that there is open communication and duplication of work can be eliminated for more efficiency and information sharing. Have a procedure that requires open positions to be communicated to the employees in the departments affected that is strictly enforced to allow for growth from within and opportunities for advancement.
