Pros

Many parents are very supportive and appreciative. Excellent salary schedule & benefits.

Cons

Extreme parental pressure in many cases with little support from administration when needed.

Advice to Management

Administrators often do not place the best interests of children first. Placating parents frequently comes first, regardless of the facts when a crisis occurs. Highly skilled teachers find it more difficult to do their jobs well than in the past. Former administrators tended to recognize the quality and value of their staff. Administrators were not considered adversaries as they tend to be now.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Weston Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

virtually unlimited resources, sweet kids, swanky facilities

    Cons

The internal politics are horrific, and are causing this super-rich district to be an embarrassment among Boston suburbs, with rapidly declining enrollment.

The district cannot retain a superintendent; in 2017, they are looking for their 4th superintendent in 4 years (after the current one is leaving after his first year of a third-year contract.) At the K-3 level, school politics are just as bad; they go through a new principal every 2-3 years, and, at some grade levels, teachers turn over every single year. The school cares about appearances more than anything else, and children suffer tremendously. The teachers and principals who do stay are mediocre educators and far from the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.

    Advice to Management

The district needs a strong superintendent who will not let internal politics kick out great teachers. Parents need to step up and fight for teachers and administrators who are smart and free-thinking.
