Pros

New college grads get a chance to learn in ongoing projects.

Cons

Too much politics. Perception is everything. If one person is dissatisfied with you, he/she can ruin it for you by collabrating with their friends. Manage your perception well. Read power and politics books and see Footloose and Score to understand the towns.

Advice to Management

Be more open minded about ideas from employees and remember your time when you started at Whirlpool and how difficult it was to fit in. If you have the power, change the culture to be more inclusive since you are losing a lot of money by not doing so. When employee problem happen, make sure to involve an independent coach since not everyone understands Whirlpool coming in. Keep HR away from employees and hire managers who have demonstrated developing talent. Put them through some kind of a objective test before assigning responsibility.

    Pros

Whirlpool tries to fo the right things for thier employees. There is not a lot of pressure to work past 5PM and its pretty easy to balance life and work. The people who work for Whirlpool are for the most part nice. There is opportunity to move between jobs and do things that are outside of your normal area of expertise and comfort zone. Whirlpool is committed to the communities where they employ people as well as Habitat for Humanity. They take Corporate Social Responsibility quite seriously and are committed to their customers. HQ is in a very pleasant community.

    Cons

There is so much red tape and getting things done is very difficult. There are virtually no processes for anything and some employees lack a true sense of urgency. Because it can be so hard to get things done, people tend to check out and only do the minimum. There is too much emphasis on cost reduction and not enough on true innovation and design. It is almost like Whirlpool doesn't really know what it wants to be, so it tries to be everything. There is a TON of duplication of effort and therefore wasted effort and there is an excellent opportunity for the company to instill some discipline and structure in order to make it easier for the company to out maneuver the competition.

    Advice to Management

Check the ego and personal agendas and make the changes needed. There are so many people trying to advance their own agendas they are not working for the good of the whole company. Cut costs...really cut costs, make the hard decisions. Put some structure and infrastrcutre in place that will create working efficiency.

    Pros

Bigger bonus potential than most employers. Performance based. St. Joe area is great place to raise family. Good schools, resort town in summer.

    Cons

No other large employers for spouse in area. Compensation is too heavily weighted on bonus. Nice when bonuses are good, but not right now. Single people may as well spend their weekends in Chicago or GR

    Advice to Management

Send a clear message on goals and objectives. OPEX is supposedly a pillar, but not supported by all functions. Managing by the quarter sends the wrong message to customers and suppliers. Long term not beneficial.
