I have been working at White House Black Market part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Bonus system: you are rewarded for your outstanding achievement through commission.

Great work environment and product to sell: easy to succeed because of the tools given to you by management and the company.

Cons

Little to no advancement with part-time work. The Keyholder position is supposed to be part-time (around 25-30 hours per week), but most upper management wants the sales lead to have completely OPEN availability. If you have anything else on your schedule (i.e. school, family, etc), it is hard to get that position.

If you are a good employee, they tend to overwork you.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule. Good group of co-workers. Local management good to work for. Nice selection of clothes to add to personal wardrobe.

    Cons

    Company started a very aggressive method of selling. District management and higher rewarded local managers for sales without any concern for how they treated employees. High volume managers are rewarded and praised, even when they treat their employees with disrespect and questionable personnel practices.

    Advice to Management

    Aggressive selling may work for some clients in some areas. The feedback from most clients is to provide suggestions but do not push. I have heard from several people that they no longer shop at WHBM because they don't like how aggressive the sales staff has become.

    company promotes from within

    Cons

    everything is 'the most important thing' ....sales, upt (units per transaction), selling 'base' pieces, capturing emails, entering customers in the black book, making 'appointments'. It can't ALL be the 'MOST' important

    Advice to Management

    Too much emphasis on 'UPT'. WAY too much. To the point where associates feel it is best to sell nothing rather than just ONE item.
