Pros

The Whitney is a great place for exposure to contemporary art. It consists of a staff of experienced and dedicated people with a real passion for the work they do.

Cons

The Whitney is a non-profit institution so that often means there is a limitations in resources. Often, the staff has to be creative in solutions to problems.

I worked at Whitney Museum as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone was very nice and friendly, want to help you succeed. The intern sessions with museum department heads are interesting and a great way to make connections!

    Cons

Departments are very silo-ed, so I felt like I never had a great opportunity to work on projects with other interns and get to know people in an office setting.

I worked at Whitney Museum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing curators and exhibition programming; small staff, so it's a very hands-on workplace; see a project from beginning to end; passionate people who believe in the work they do

    Cons

Not compensated well, as it is a non-profits arts institution and it's in one of the most expensive cities in the world; expected to do a lot, long hours, lots of events, for not much pay

    Advice to Management

Compensate accordingly, so people don't feel so overworked and overwhelmed
