I have been working at Williams-Sonoma full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Lots of opportunity to grow. Very creative environment. Very positive focus on its people and their value. Lots of people to learn from who know the business inside and out.

Cons

Management thinks they know best and aren't open much to market research. Very slow to embrace internet and social media but now master it.

I worked at Williams-Sonoma as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I interned here and was paid decently for my work, and the hours were flexible.

    Cons

Learned quickly that it was not a place I would ever want to work after I was finished with school. The designers were worked to the bone and made to jump through hoops...and the interesting products they would pitch early in the season were always watered down to the same old mush. Ultimately, because of changes within the structure of my group, I was notified via voicemail that my internship was over..."people first"...yeah, whatever.

    I worked at Williams-Sonoma part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, lax dress code, not much responsibility, many locations, great discount and discounts to the sister companies (pottery barn, west elm)

    Cons

The managers didn't seem to care about how the store was doing or how we could improve things, associates all had second jobs or were retired so they didn't care either. No motivation to do better, and no clear hope for advancement. Managers conducted shady practices when it came to contest giveaways and sale product. Inconsistent hours.

    Advice to Management

Improve working conditions, don't rig the contests, don't hide product above the office until it goes on sale so you can purchase it,
