I worked at Wilmerhale full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Big name clients. Impressive support and technology. Lots of free food. Diverse breadth of types of law. Pushes a lot of work down to junior associates. More training than you can shake a stick at.

Cons

Bottleneck for partnership. While the billable hour requirement is low, the number of actual hours worked is MUCH higher. Pay is below average if "excellent" ratings are not made and minimum hours met.

    Pros

Benefits package is quite generous compared to many other firms. Flexibility is pretty good for staff.

    Cons

Non-attorney salaries pale in comparison to a lot of firms. Raises are non-existent, all the firm "profits" are concentrated on top of the pyramid. There is a disconnect between HR and the attorneys in the sense that you may get an excellent performance review yearly but it is never reflected in your compensation.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more transparency between management and staff. A lot of secrecy in how things are handled.

    Pros

    The staff was reasonably nice.

    Cons

It was a pressure cooker for the attorneys so the enjoyment at work in general is reduced.

    Advice to Management

Remember that staff are not serfs and that it is how they make their living. Find attorneys that have people skills which include treating employees with respect and dignity.
