I have been working at Windstream full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

pay is good, benefits ok

Cons

Management is the biggest negative, so distracted with kingdom building and related politics and chaos attitude, that almost no one is focused on managing/helping employees to complete important tasks/projects for the parent company other then constant nagging which is basically ineffectual.

Company knows there's a problem, Hiring army of project managers who along with multiple bosses is constantly hounding you about is this project done? how about the 20 other projects I've given you? PM's like to have constant meeting as a harassment technique to force you to put there project at the top of the list.

And by the way don't forget to take care of the huge stack of operation issues that keep you from working on the projects anyways. If you try to work on anything that takes any real concentration or time forget it! You'll be interrupted every 10 seconds by IM, phone,email, boss yelling orders out his office etc. etc, concentration and focus is not needed here!

Infrastructure is bad, very old pc's with no software other then bare minimum, no training or involvement in products until the day it's dumped in your lap. Manager volunteers your for projects/work without even talking to employee to make sure he has time,knowledge to complete task, not even sure they care about such pesky details.

Suggestion to upper management is to terminate almost all baseline employees and replace with contracts since terrible management more or less makes it impossible for employees to function anyhow, hope management will not sabotage contractors efforts. Also suggest company stop buying high end software that they refuse to train people on or provide proper admin resources for, therefore making it useless. Like throwing money in the toilet.

If you went a paycheck/benefits it's ok, if you went a job where you given time/resources to get meaningful work done forget about it.

Advice to Management

make management accountable for task completion. don't let them promise you the moon and deliver nothing. If they where accountable for getting the job done they would have to care about there employees since that's who get's it done!!! They don't care since feeding misinformation to superiors then making excuses for why it was not done is a way of life for management

    Varied focus creates gaps in knowledge of industry and direction of products and support.

    Advice to Management

    Make product set with firm set of standards and train entire workforce on core business objectives for the company. Give customers and employees a firm sense of who Windstream is what we do.
