Pros

There is an opportunity to be involved with several aspects of the business including marketing, inventory management, and customer service. Additionally, communication between employees is outstanding. There are no "secrets" within the company; anything that effects the performance of the business is shared with all employees. Furthermore, employees are encouraged to generate ideas and implement plans to improve profitability. Employees are rewarded with cash bonuses or "spiffs" for meeting and exceeding goals.

Cons

While the company offers excellent opportunities for advancement, there is no "benefits package" offered to employees. If you need health insurance or a retirement plan, you'll need to seek coverage on your own, or set up an IRA or annuity with a broker. Hours can be long - particularly for managers - it is retail, after all. The work/life balance can be tough, since sales associates are expected to work nights and weekends. Additionally, the compensation does not make up for the lack of benefits typically offered by large companies. Pay rates ranging from $9 - $12 (including commission) for sales associates to $40,000 per year (including commission) for management are below average for the industry. Sales Associates typically work 35 to 39 hours per week while managers average 45 to 50 hours per week ($13.00 / hour base salary at 50 hours per week). Be prepared to deal with ALL aspects of customer service - from bill complaints to technical support issues - and most customers want and expect an answer very quickly. This can be stressful for some people since stores often get heavy traffic and there is often not adequate personnel on staff to deal with the level of customer traffic.

Advice to Management

Increase the commission rate to be more "on par" with the industry. Additionally, offer health insurance to employees - even if it is paid. Working in retail can be stressful at times and it is important for employees to have access to health insurance. Furthermore, hire more staff. Having one person run a store for a ten or eleven hour shift for several days in a row is not only tiring, it is stressful and does not provide the best customer service experience, and it creates a poor work/life balance for employees.

    Pros

This company is a very good company to work for as far as helping out employees with personal matters. The pay is nice for people who can actively sell when the market is in a good standing.

    Cons

The city i work in is being hurt dramaticly by the current economic conditions. So my pay has dwindled quite a bit. However all of my colleges that work in other locations are quite happy wth their pay.

    Advice to Management

This location is in for some tough times and the pay is terrible right now. Renovation is due and would help the apperance of the store.

    Pros

Company carried the #1 cellular provider so customers really liked the coverage. We were able to carry the full line up of cell phones and accessories.

    Cons

Felt that WZ corporate should have grown a set and stood up to Verizon corporate more. We constantly had to put up with Competing against Verizon stores on price and not having the latest phones until VZW had them first for a good 2 months. Also VZW corporate stores would bad mouth our stores telling customers that we were not REAL Verizon stores and that the customers should return their purchases to the Wireless Zone and then go to a corporate Verizon store instead.

    Advice to Management

Keep your friends close and Verizon closer. Maybe take a lesson from Best Buy Mobile and spread the love by carrying AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon.
