    Pros

Considerable freedom to work hours as needed, though that would not appeal to someone who objects to working nights and weekends! Good variety of duties and some autonomy. Great benefits package and decent end-of-year bonus.

    Cons

Input from employees often ignored. Objectives and changes not clearly communicated by management. No feedback on work accomplished. No coherence of message. I was in a department of four employees, and my supervisor FORGOT (or deliberately neglected) to notify me about an important departmental meeting with upper management -- made me look like a fool. Disconnect between upper management and the industry of horse racing is sometimes vast.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and listen to the horsepeople. Remember who is your bread and butter.
