    Groomers Beware!!

    Pros

Atmosphere is cute, but that is really the only highlight I'm recalling.

    Cons

Do not groom for one of these stores. They are all run by people who have NEVER worked in the pet industry before. Corporate does this on purpose so that they can retain maximum control. What previous reviewers said about corporate is dead on. They also try to bring groomers on at a low salary and ask them to supply everything on their own. Some locations offer comission instead, but they price match with Petsmart and advertise as a "high end" boutique. Poor salon set up and lighting, poor grooming scheduling because the owners literally don't know a Cocker Spaniel from a Lab - they also know nothing about the grooming process and will squash sales or make consultations awkward. Basically, do not go to one of these stores as a groomer and expect to make a real or reasonable living. They are not employee friendly, and they are cheap to where you have to buy your own, required, work shirts. Overall, worst grooming experience of my career.

    Another Overworked & Underpaid Story

    Pros

Occasional free lunches & the fact that you're surrounded by dogs all day. Business has amazing potential, if run correctly with caring owners that are knowledgeable on grooming. Franchised structure moving towards corporate is hopefully a step in the right direction to give stores more support. Some customers were lovely. Could be a really cool way to get more young people interested in pet nutrition & grooming.

    Cons

No benefits, no healthcare, no tips for retail staff, no set holiday schedule, not encouraging of, or paying for any continued education, low starting wages, high staff turnover, no support from corporate/HR, had customers spit in my face and still, "the customer is always right" mentality, push for profit results in unsafe animal handling practices. Every store sets their own standards for handling, this one didn't have any. Staff fighting in and outside of the store even though management would claim staff is "family". If someone went on vacation everyone was expected to work more to cover the shifts because "we're a family". Schedule would come out a few hours before the next week would start and requests to have a set schedule or at least a few days in advance were denied by management several times. Not willing to work with students' schedules and would punish them with more or less hours. Other stores may be different, but we were only paid twice a month and it was very difficult to budget that way and requests to change it were denied. Issues not being resolved over years lead to good employees leaving, which then became the staff's problem to deal with angry and confused customers. Clients come in with nutritional questions that only experienced nutritionists and veterinary professionals can answer, yet uneducated staff is encouraged to upsell anything instead of admitting they don't know what they are talking about. The structure of the business is made to cater to high-end neighborhood clientele, but cannot hire staff at a livable wage, resulting in a rotation of college student staff serving millionaire customers that demand everything.
