Pros

Within a store you are able to move between departments and learn a variety of skills. Being a national company your skills are transferable from store to store and state to state.

Cons

If there was a down side I did not feel too affected by it to remember. A lot of people come in with high expectations.

Advice to Management

I was well trained when I was employed at Woolworth but I do not see strong evidence of quality training in stores lately

    Pros

largest retail company in australia (job security) quite good salary yearly pay rises of atleast 3.5% depending on how keen (aggresive) you are there are plenty of promotions available (more money but u will be working more hours for it) well respected company, market leader growing at a fast paced

    Cons

as a salary worker while the pay is quite good (myself no formal qualifications) but once your on salary if you are a department manager not uncommon to work 50 + hours aweek most weeks, myself as second in charge i average 45 hours a week but the odd bad nite at times i will end up working 4 or 5 hours over time in just one nite, company struggles with the words thank u, but doesnt worry me as i know im doing the best i can, moral in some stores is low but thats because of management and lack of leadership, we only close 2 days a year!!!! xmas day and good friday

    Advice to Management

constructive feed back is lacking, some managers feel as though they put in all these hours and feel as though the company does not appreciate it (just expects it) i think if some store managers and area managers cared more about department managers and showed a bit more appreciation for the work they do morale would improve, personally i dont think its right that some (maybe quite a few) department managers are working around 60 hours a week, week after week, if store managers and area managers cared so much they would be asking questions and investigating why they are working so many hours, but i dont see it happening, wage budgets are incredibly tight these days so naturally salary managers end up doing the extra hours to get the job done, hence why i am a second in charge with no interest in going further with the company, the company has a great brand image i do like the company (most of the time) and really enjoy my job, but just feel its not the big hours some salary workers and managers are working week after week,

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    Good remuneration
    Beautiful location
    Currently restructuring upper management

    Cons

Poor management (and poor choice of those promoted into management)
Lack of co-operation between department heads
Politics, inward fighting & blame culture
Outwardly projected caring values do not count inside the company, when dealing with staff
Continually changing & redoing things to make someone feel validated

    Advice to Management

Change upper management & do not tolerate the blame game
Respecting other departments for the value they add- don't be so insecure, trying to sink each other to get ahead!
