Current Employee - Career Resource Specialist in Lowell, MA

Pros

advcancement opportunities, open communication between managers and staff, clear goals are set monthly through "30 Day Objectives," team building is encouraged.

Cons

limited compensation for mileage, amount of driving expected of all employees is at least 60 miles per day during the work day, salary is limited, expectations are set very high for top performers which can lead to burn-out...

Advice to Management

to focus more on client services and not as much on the financials - although this is a for-profit company, the goals need to be centered around quality services for the individuals supported.

I worked at Work Opportunities Unlimited full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Clients are wonderful to work with. There is some flexibility in your schedule.

    Cons

Complete lack of training and guidance. Company forces employees to use all of their own equipment including vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc, with very minimal reimbursement. Central office staff( Southern NH) are absolutely demoralizing and condescending in all of their correspondence with team members. Money appears to be the absolute bottom line which is why they do not maintain a non-profit status. It appears that someone may be getting wealthy here and it is definitely not front line employees that are providing care and services to clients. Although with the constant mistreatment of employees and lack of training that results in immeasurable stress--the turnover rate is the highest in the industry. The average lifespan of an employee is approximately 6 months after hire. Anyone considering employment here must brace themselves for constant emails and phone calls all times of the day and night from clients, your manager, their families, and the central office. Since there are no set hours, and even though you have some flexibility in your schedule, you are expected to be available to the company constantly in case there is an issue with a client, paperwork submitted, or a billing note. This can make it feel like a 16 hour a day job without pay.

    Advice to Management

Please train, equip, and compensate your staff appropriately so that they can serve clients. Institute comparable wages and raises, including providing the proper reimbursement to employees for allowing your company to use their personal equipment to facilitate operations for your business. Conducting business operations this way is actually causing your company to lose business and money which is the most ironic part of it all.
