Keep being very selective about who you hire, hire good honest smart people. Love the culture and want to maintain what we have -- Great job so far!!

    I have been working at Xero full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great coffee, great people, very diverse staff (compared to others, still room for improvement but doing well) autonomy and freedom (at least my area)
    Lots of experimenting with new tech and moving fast to take advantage of new things.
    Pretty much everyone believes in the product(s) and the goals and genuinely wants to do the best job and get the best results.

    Cons

    HR burocracy starting to creep in making it hard to keep good people who could be making way more elsewhere.
    This also affects the ability to engage with community and go to conferences when you have to fight for it every time.
    In some parts of the business we are starting to have too many layers of management went from two layers between me and the CEO to 4 - makes a noticeable difference!

    Advice to Management

    Push responsibility down the management later as far as possible, those people are capable of making good decisions - you need to trust them or find people you can trust.

    Good product team
    Excellent coffee machine
    Table tennis and Friday drinks!!

    Cons

    Clicky management team
    Be careful with HR - not to be trusted
    Many long timers suckup to get internal jobs
    Promotions based on popularity over talent
    Becoming real corporate

    Increase diversity of staff
    Recruit different types of people
