I worked at Xerox full-time

Pros

Some good people. Rewarded with pizza instead of a raise.

Cons

I've been there for many years and haven't received one raise and horrible bonuses. They say they have horrible quarters by only making 80 million. They will hire 5 new employees and give certain favorites pay increases but will lay you off to "cut costs". Upper management are sneaky and shady and will conspire behind closed doors against their employees. You will only get hired if you are someone's family member or best friend. Employee of the month is a joke. They only reward people who who work on projects for management otherwise they don't notice your hard work and dedication. This place is a sinking ship. I don't see this company lasting much longer under current management.

Advice to Management

Get rid of certain managers who only got the job because of the people they know.

    Pros

Huge company, great exposure to multiples areas/disciplines, strong brand name; moving in a smart direction, has incredible resource base

    Cons

Opportunities to move up are difficult to find- each group wants to hold onto its top performers-employees are stuck; inconsistent compensation plans for sales people- top performers often not given due credit/commissions; Top leadership is game of roulette- people are moved around after a year in one position- non performing senior leadership somehow manage to stay on top

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people- they are the most valuable assets for this company.

I have been working at Xerox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

low direct supervision, ability to work remotely, exposure to many clients and their technologies. lots of turnover at employee level and management level, so good opportunities for jumping into higher job levels if you are not averse to personal risk. if you need to quickly take day off for personal matters, this is good place because chances are your boss is 100's of miles away and too overworked to notice.

    Cons

no training or travel, long periods of wage freezes (e.g., 6+ years), no bonus or incentive pay, profits are generated by reducing work force (layoffs) - do more with less. Key customer -facing people are frequently challenged to communicate with customers without being reduced to overt lying or false manipulation of facts - this can grind mercilessly against an individual's personal ethics.

    Advice to Management

Try to be more than the bargain-basement low-ball bidder. Use realistic cost models for pricing goods and services. Utilize better IT tools. Strive to improve market reputation by delivering quality services through professionally groomed and supported staff. Implement a retention program, where loyal and effective employees are encouraged to stay at Xerox, rather than leave because its too expensive to remain a Xerox employee for very long.
