Pros

The kids you work with are wonderful. It is an experience of a lifetime. There is a lot of great workers around you who care for you and the job.

Cons

The pay is not very good. It is a good experience that I think all high school or college students should have but not something to make a career out of.

Advice to Management

Remember what made camp jorn camp jorn.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at YMCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance available. Non-salary benefits better than at most companies. Many opportunities for professional training available to senior staff. Easy work for interested part-time staff.

    Cons

Salary is quite low even for senior positions (managers and directors) relative to the job requirements and duties performed. Very little opportunity for career advancement due to the limited full time and senior positions available. Huge loss of highly educated and experienced staff since 2011 due to layoffs and turnover. Lack of resources (financial and human) to work well.

    Advice to Management

No long term vision for revenue growth at the head office. Layoffs are decided by senior VPs who have never had contact with the staff they are letting go. Company is not competitive in the market. Company tries to be everything to everyone -- There is no focus on its core competencies and thus resources (financial and human) are consistently stretched too thin.
