I have been working at YMCA full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Most of the staff are great to work with! As a well-established non-profit, it has more of the work environment you would expect from a business, such as supportive HR policies, regulated pay scale, good benefits, and training support. The YMCA retirement account is phenomenal, you can start your own contributions at any time, after two years you are vested and receive a whopping 12% contribution, NOT MATCHING, just 12%! Single/family membership included depending on hours worked. Good impact in the community and knowing you are a part of it.

Cons

Non-profit work always means understaffing, and this Y is no exception. A lot of staff work extra hours just to get things done. Management at the top is not well connected to people on the front lines, or even in the middle. Priorities are not always well aligned.

Advice to Management

Research thoroughly before making sweeping decisions that affect everyone, it will save time down the road when you have to go back and undo your changes because they don't work in real time or were too hastily implemented. Listen more than you speak.
