I worked at YMCA part-time (More than a year)

Pros

The directors and staff employees are all very helpful, considerate and always willing to help out one another. A great place for a starter instructor. The patrons are kind and excited to be taught. As an employee you get a discount family membership option, which is truly nice because the facility offers an in-door swimming pool, well loved by my children.

Cons

Don't get paid as well as an instructor would at a nearby gym. You sometimes work holidays and don't get extra pay for it.

I worked at YMCA part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The YMCA is a great place to work, especially if you're younger and just getting started. It was my first job and it was great, in the beginning at least. It's a great place to make friends and to gain experience for later in life. If you know the right people, moving up isn't hard to do either if you put in the work.

    Cons

I worked in the Afterschool department, and if you are not a kid friendly person, this is not the place to work. It can get pretty crazy, but if this is what you love to do, there should be no problem. Also, don't ask too many questions, just do your job quietly. Not too many cons though.

    Advice to Management

Understand how hard your employees work and are willing to give to make the kids we work with happy. Don't underestimate us just because we stay quiet on certain things. Appreciate the work we do, and don't get angry when we're just asking a question. And more pay would have been great.
