Pros

Flexible hours, pay is decent if you have a degree (not sure otherwise), superiors willing to help, friendly work environment, there are a variety of jobs one can do, you can never be bored because something is always going on, and it's great to work in an organization that wants to support and strengthen the community

Cons

Superiors are not very organized, they forget to inform the staff things frequently, and you need to be confident to approach them to find the information you need in order to fulfill you job

Advice to Management

Organization, inform ALL staff through weekly/biweekly/ monthly meetings, look at current employees to see if they can step up and help in the office paper work to distribute the work load

    Pros

Hours are flexible, and the location was very close to me, free gym membership!

    Cons

Working with children is never super easy, the hardest part was staying in ratio, they really need to hire more people

    Advice to Management

I think if you paid your daycare providers a little more money, there might not be so many call offs.

I worked at YMCA part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Pretty flexible hours
    Laid back dress code
    Free membership
Working with the kids was great.
Other branches seem to have better management and better child watch systems. Really like that the Y is family oriented. Also like that's it's not a muscle head gym and people are more comfortable.

    Cons

    Poor management
    Poor event planning
Our department wasn't really in sync, and due to the supervisor's desire not to hire anymore (to keep costs down) we have been scheduled for shifts we listed we weren't available for.

    Advice to Management

Put someone in charge of the Child Watch department. Stop making us another department head's afterthought. Work on retaining employees.
