I worked at YP full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

friendly work environment if you have a hands off manager. Made lifetime friends. Really good insurance. Not too much travel.

Cons

waay too much nepotism and good ole boy syndrome. Managers even upper management that were not good at sales. Didn't support sales reps enough. Antiquated equipment.

Advice to Management

change hiring practices. Not diverse enough in outside sales. Hired too many friends and cousins......

I worked at YP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

nobody is working that awfully hard, so you can take it pretty easy and survive; pay is not that bad; Glendale is a pretty easy commute from much of valleys

    Cons

since no one is working that hard, or is that ambitious here, it's hard to do anything interesting or challenging (i.e. don't expect to be rewarded for pushing the envelope)

    Advice to Management

get a clue - instead of being enamored by outside consultants (like Altman Villandrie) that charge hundreds of thousands to tell you what your best employees already know (wow, your most popular categories are also the most under-monetized - no one caught that before!), try to reward the few people in the company that are striving to make a difference. It's way to easy to get ahead in this company by being a great a**-kisser.

I have been working at YP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Currently good benefits but they may be changing as a union agreement expires shortly.
Has a union that offers some protection however poorly they operate
Can be great to work with the clients
Sales force like each other and this is the main reason people stay.

    Cons

Micro-management and a culture of punishment and favoritism.
Management lacks integrity...a lot of reporting to protect positions rather than to add value.
Future uncertain... company taken over by Cerberus and may extract as much money as possible and then sell off the pieces that are left.
    Products need to work better

    Advice to Management

Clean house....way too much management and "jobs for the boys and girls". The old guard management from AT&T are not able to run a modern 21st century company. Improve morale and trust your sales force... go to your staff and find out what is really happening. Don't fit the customers to the company...fit the company to meet the needs of the customer.
