Positive Outlook

I have been working at Yahoo full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Considering all the turmoil that Y! has been goring through in the last years, there are still very smart people working there. It is a very collaborative environment where things can get done quickly without much bureaucracy. The push to mobile first is the right direction and we work on the latest trends, and mobile customer needs

Cons

Lots of re-orgs and turn over (getting better)
Salaries should be more competitive (hopefully Marissa will fix this)

Advice to Management

Keep hiring good talent and staying focus on the most important Y! properties.

    I have been working at Yahoo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    good career prospects for desi people. flagships products like mail, media, shopping run by desi bottom up. major products like messenger and mail backend moved to india. it's easy to get director level positions in bangalore if you are willing to move there.

    Cons

    - Never ending the re-orgs and lay offs
    - Now it became a stack ranking company,top %25 gets some bonus,%50 gets nothing,bottom %25 is to be laid off
    - Managers offered bonus to manage out bottom %25
    - failed immigration department,thousands of desi people stuck on green card queues forever

    Advice to Management

    do the lay offs asap, don't let wait, morale is getting down

    I worked at Yahoo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Top notch benefits
    * Free hand-made, Starbucks-like coffee (and now even full food, I hear)
    * Fun events for employees and family
    * Well known brand

    Cons

    * Way too many (~7) levels of management
    * Incompetent managers that are clueless about what their job really is
    * Agile software development limited to isolated pockets
    * Waterfall process causing constant fire drills
    * Extreme turnover and low morale

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of at least 75% of the (especially lower and middle) management and try to keep those few managers that know what they're supposed to do and how to do it.
