I worked at Yahoo full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Employees are treated well and highly encouraged to push the boundaries of possibilities. Strong intellect from fellow Yahoos about the past and present of the company. Open culture that moves fast.

    Cons

Some are stuck with nostalgia of the historic silicon valley brand which hinders the ability to look forward on how to win in their competitive market. Employees are stacked ranked and some managers rotate the high rating around the team to avoid losing talent. This also prevents the ability to promote given the lack of a consistent rating.

    Advice to Management

Yahoo is under new leadership due to the merger. Keep the focus on the employees and find ways to get leadership to invest in future technologies (AR/VR, AI) in new channels.
