Pros

The most interesting aspect of working at Yahoo is that you get a view into how humanity uses the internet. From a sociological perspective, it is fascinating. Also the diversity of projects, both for the lateral flexibility and just for the purpose of personal education, are also a plus. Its strong international presence is also a plus.

Cons

The lack of cohesiveness among divisions and the lack of a convincing strategy for growth at the top level. There is a strong BlackBerry culture, which is annoying because people don't think twice about messaging while you are talking to them. The company is rather cheap too.

Advice to Management

Cut the fat and focus.

yes this is a good place to work. It is doing some cutting edge stuff right now. So, I like it.

    Cons

there is a lot of external noise from all the icahn and microsoft stuff. It just needs to go away to let yahoo focus on creating great products.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Having been with Yahoo long before the recent turmoil, I can say that it has been a very conducive environment for an individual to work on a large variety of areas, ranging from serious engineering to research. Few places offer the opportunity to immediately impact as many people as we do at Yahoo. Unlike some competitors, Yahoo is truly diverse. And then, Yahoo's compensation and benefits are quite a compelling reason to stay here.

    Cons

Despite having worked on some great stuff, it is not easy to grow in one's career as there is no clear path. There is a lack of vigor in senior management.

    Advice to Management

Stick with a mission statement for at least 2 years. No one in senior management can evoke enthusiasm or passion in employees. We need to believe that you have a plan that you think will succeed. It still early days, but Ari and David Ku look like they can pull something off.
