Pros

Best reasons to work for Yahoo-
Smart people
Challenging work
Multiple interesting projects

Cons

Down sides of working at Yahoo -
Poor management - constant re-orgs are a definite sign that management has little clue what to do. Layoffs were followed by new recruitment which was very hard to accompolish. How do you convince smart people to work for Yahoo with all the head lines going around?
Extremely short term oriented management
Not enough focus on end user experience
Too many managers - lay-offs targeted engineers who could not be blamed for the mess yahoo is in.
Some teams are useless and incompetent.

Advice to Management

Stop fooling people with empty pep talks. Be open and think long term.

    Pros

In my tenure at Yahoo!, I have been surrounded by the most talented people I have ever worked with. The ability to learn from your peers and collaborate on projects has been amazing. Yahoo! values that talent and takes very good care of their employees - everything from free coffee to exellent benefits.

    Cons

Yahoo! is a huge company, and with any large company there is a certain amount of red tape involved. Support functions like finance, ap, hr, it, etc can be slower to respond than in smaller companies (simply becuase of the volume that they have to deal with); but realisticly you're never really waiting more than a day or two to get your problems and questions solved.

    Advice to Management

Keep visiting all the offices; with the main campus in Sunnyvale, I have never seen Senior managment in my offices in NY. It means a lot to employees to see those faces, even if it is only a few times a year.
