Pros

The people are friendly and smart. Commitment to diversity makes working here interesting. Strong reputation. A lot of resources to take advamtage of.

Cons

Sometimes, the people you interact with aren't the most genuine and only care about getting ahead. Can be hard to find niche. Very competitive.

    Pros

Incredible students; incredible libraries; fabulous health center

    Cons

Cavernous gap between faculty and staff as well as between management level and unionized clerical level. The entrenched hierarchies make many things difficult, such as career growth and upward mobility on the administrative and support staff side.

    Advice to Management

Create some real change to workplace culture. Consider, for instance, instituting on-campus job exchange program to allow staff to experience other departments. This could encourage best-practices across the university as well as give staff the opportunity to show their skills and strengths to other units in a very concrete way. Repeal recent changes to management level staff benefits (i.e. give back sick time and personal days!) OR give real raises for high performers.
