Pros

1. puppies
2. free breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a guy comes around with a cart at 3:30 with a freshly made gourmet snack. food is super healthy too. there's also fancy drinks in the fridge like fresh squeezed juice, japanese tea, sparkling water, kombucha, beer. i think i consume about 30 dollars in food/drinks a day.
3. everyone is young and excited to be there. the engineers are super smart and never get mad about the difficulty of their projects or the fact that people bother them all day about bugs.
4. i hear we get paid a lot
5. all your friends will be jealous of you

Cons

1. things happen really fast and you never feel like your job is done. management could do a better job explaining what is expected of us or else the overachievers burn out and don't even feel like they did a good job.
2. some people take advantage of the relaxed environment. they're unfocused, immature, and unprofessional. these people/person are incredibly distracting to those trying to work.
3. sometimes the snack guy comes to my desk 10 minutes late. worst day ever.

    Pros

Fun people that you might actually want to hang out with outside of the office, fast paced work, open communications, fairly ego-free management that embraces dissent, free meals/drinks/snacks, lots of fun events and activities.

    Cons

Sometimes people just vanish without a word... some day you think someone just went on vacation or something, 4 months later you realize they were fired.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

If you are in engineering, Yammer is great. You will get treated exceptionally well.
The rest of the company will get fed, great benefits, average pay and a pleasant environment to work along with great people. So long as you can stand tight quarters and noise. It's a great product with a lot of potential if we can get away from the "Facebook clone" image.

The company is very open and most problems come to light and are addressed very quickly, usually in a fair way.

    Cons

If you are not in engineering you will find your life revolving around engineers who have little concept of the real world and think they know everyone's job better than they do. If you misstep and accidentally offend one, which happens often, you will hear about it from the highest echelons of management since they won't deal with you directly.

The openness of Yammer has a down side in that everyone has an opinion on everything and gets upset if a decision is made that is not "listening to them" usually this blows over quickly but can be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Find a balance between coddling engineering and supporting the rest of the company. Treat everyone equally and as equally valuable as contributing to the success of the company.
